According to the survey, over the past calendar year 15% of Kirov residents took unscheduled leave. Of these, 12% had legal grounds to do so, and 3% took leave without such grounds. The most common reasons were illnesses of relatives, injuries to pets, problems with studies, last‑minute travel deals, school holidays and family troubles. Some respondents admitted that they took leave to do temporary high‑paying side jobs.
The study showed that the likelihood of requesting unscheduled leave increases with age. At the same time employers are generally lenient toward such requests: in 84% of cases employees had their requests granted.
