Those sentenced to forced labor helped the Kirov animal shelter.

In Kirov, inmates sentenced to compulsory labor, together with staff of UFIC No. 1 at Penal Colony KP-21 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Kirov Region, took part in a charity event at the "Wet Nose" shelter, which houses almost 300 dogs.

Eight participants — six inmates and two staff members of the institution — tidied the shelter grounds: they cleared and removed trash, gathered firewood, cleaned the kennels, washed the feeding troughs, bagged sawdust and covered the wood to protect it from the rain. In addition, dry food, grains, leashes and harnesses were donated for the animals.

As senior inspector of UFIC No. 1 Viktoria Araslanova emphasized, such activities help inmates feel responsibility, learn empathy and understand that helping is easier than committing crimes.

The shelter’s management expressed gratitude for the assistance and noted that similar events are planned to be held regularly.
