On December 19, 2025, a multi-apartment building caught fire on Mira Street in Slobodskoy. The fire damaged three apartments, and part of the roof was also burned. Two people were injured. A criminal case was initiated regarding the fire under Article 168 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (destruction or damage to property through negligence). The culprit turned out to be a 55-year-old man who was illegally using a 50-liter gas cylinder in the kitchen and decided to disconnect it from the stove himself on the day of the fire. A propane leak occurred. A stove was being heated in the apartment, which, according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, served as the ignition source. Soon, a flash of the gas-air mixture followed, and the house was engulfed in flames.
The criminal case is currently being heard in court. The man faces penalties of up to a large fine and imprisonment for up to one year.
