Russians have taken out loans totaling nearly 37.5 trillion rubles.
As of the first quarter of 2026, the total amount of active loans for the population amounted to 37.38 trillion rubles. This was reported by the United Credit Bureau. For comparison, at the end of last year, the figure was 37.11 trillion rubles, and a year ago it was 35.77 trillion rubles. Currently, at least one active loan is held by 47.6 million Russians. This is slightly more than in the fourth quarter of 2025, but less than the peak values of 2024. The maximum level of indebtedness was recorded in the third quarter of 2024, when loans were held by 49.7 million people. The average number of loans per borrower remains at 2.2 loans for the second consecutive quarter. At the same time, the average debt amount also remains at a maximum level — 1.16 million rubles per person. At the same time, the number of Russians with overdue payments is also increasing. According to the UCB, the debt on loans overdue from 30 to 90 days is already held by 9.06 million people. In monetary terms, the volume of such overdue payments reached 328.2 billion rubles. However, the share of overdue debt in the overall loan portfolio remains relatively stable — around 0.9%. The maximum was recorded in the first quarter of 2025, when the figure reached 1.1%.
