The runway repair at Pobedyilovo Airport has been extended until June 20.
The Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kirov Region, Alexey Petryakov, announced on his Telegram channel: the repair of the runway at the Pobedilovo airport has been extended until June 20.
As Petryakov explained, the customer of the work — the state enterprise "Administration of Civil Airports" — identified a defect in the foundation of the runway. The defect, according to the official, could pose a danger to flights.
The contractor has already removed the old surface along the entire length of the runway and created a new one on 30% of the area. Now, the defective foundation needs to be completely replaced.
Flights from the Kirov airport will resume on June 21. Passengers will be refunded for airline tickets for flights from June 8 to June 20. However, it should be understood that those who have already purchased tickets and booked hotels may not get their money back, and there may not be available seats for other dates.
During the repair, the authorities are strengthening rail connections. Additional cars will be added to the branded train "Vyatka," and additional trains No. 251, 252, 253, and 254 will be launched. The schedule for the high-speed train "Lastochka" and the high-speed train "Burevestnik" has also been adjusted. It is unknown whether there will be enough tickets for everyone whose flights were unexpectedly canceled. It is worth noting that tickets purchased in advance are much cheaper than those bought closer to the departure date.
