Pyrlog questioned the advisability of dedicated lanes in Kirov.
Discussion continues in Kirov over an initiative to set up dedicated lanes for public transport. Earlier, city authorities said the project's goal is to increase passenger comfort and relieve the main roads. However, not all experts agree with the way this idea is being implemented.
The former head of Kirov's motor transport enterprise, Denis Pyrlog, expressed doubts about the choice of specific sections on his Telegram channel. The sections in question are Oktyabrsky Avenue on the stretch from Komsomolskaya Street to Krasnoarmeyskaya Street, and Komsomolskaya Street from Vladimirskaya Street to Oktyabrsky Avenue.
According to Pyrlog, these sections have long had good capacity and do not experience serious congestion even at peak hours. To support his statements he cites data from the Yandex.Maps service, where, he claims, morning-hour traffic jams are not recorded on these streets.
The former MTE head believes that building dedicated lanes in such locations looks more like a formal measure than a necessary step to improve the traffic situation. At the same time, in his view the main congestion problems in the city are concentrated on other thoroughfares that were not included in the project.
Moreover, Pyrlog noted, drivers of public transport he was able to speak with also expressed doubts about the advisability of the decision. He suggests that the real needs of residents may not have been sufficiently taken into account in implementing the project.
Whether the introduction of dedicated lanes will be an effective measure or be limited to reporting, Pyrlog says, only time will tell.
