Sought a side job — found himself in criminal trouble: in Kirov, a student ferried money to scammers.
In Kirov, police detained an 18-year-old college student suspected of a series of frauds in the city and region. According to police, the young man worked as a "courier" for unknown handlers. The detainee said he believed he had found an ordinary side job: he was sent addresses to go to and collect "packages" containing cash. He then converted the cash into cryptocurrency and sent it to the clients. However, it soon emerged that the victims had handed the money to fraudsters. The young man is now a suspect in at least five criminal cases brought under parts 3 and 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on a large and particularly large scale). The student faces up to 10 years in prison. He has been placed under house arrest pending investigation.
