Kirov residents were informed about the December holidays important to Orthodox Christians.

In December Orthodox Christians celebrate a number of important feasts that help prepare for the Nativity of Christ and recall events from Christian history.

On December 4 the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple is celebrated — one of the Twelve Great Feasts, commemorating how Mary’s parents brought her to the Jerusalem Temple and dedicated her to God’s service. For Christians this day symbolizes purity, humility, and the beginning of the spiritual path. Solemn services are held in churches on this day, and parishioners pray for peace and well‑being.

On December 6 Prince Alexander Nevsky is commemorated; he is venerated as a wise ruler and defender of Rus'. The faithful pray to him for peace and steadfastness.

The next day, December 7, honors the Holy Great Martyr Catherine, the patroness of science and education. Students and teachers pray to her for help in their studies.

On December 13 Orthodox Christians honor the Apostle Andrew the First‑Called, the first disciple of Christ and a preacher in the lands that would become Rus'. He is considered the patron of travelers.

One of the most beloved popular feasts is December 19 — the day of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, one of the most venerated saints. Churches are especially crowded on this day: people ask for health, well‑being, and help in difficult situations.

The series of December feasts concludes on December 22 with the Conception of the Righteous Anna, from which the story of the Nativity begins. The faithful pray for the gift of children and for family well‑being.

We remind you that on November 28 Orthodox Christians began the Nativity Fast, which lasts forty days and ends on January 6 inclusive. The night from January 6 to 7 is the time of the celebration of the Nativity of Christ. As reported by the Vyatka Diocese, this is a time of spiritual purification, prayer, and preparation for the bright feast. The fast helps a person pause, reassess their life, regain spiritual sensitivity, and prepare for the celebration of the Nativity.
