A woman from Kirov Oblast lied in court to save her friend from criminal liability.

      A 37-year-old resident of the Murashinsky District witnessed a conflict between two female friends. In March of this year, after drinking together, one of the women beat her friend and also threatened to kill her. She was convicted under Articles 116 and 119 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

      During questioning as a witness, the defendant gave knowingly false testimony, denying the circumstances of the conflict and the convicted woman’s unlawful actions. She tried to help her friend avoid criminal liability. However, the prosecution disproved her false testimony in court.

      A criminal case was opened against the woman. She was found guilty under Part 1 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (knowingly false testimony of a witness). Taking into account the gravity and public danger of the act, information about her personal circumstances, that the offenses were committed for the first time, and that she has a minor child dependent on her, the court sentenced the defendant to a fine of 5,000 rubles.
