Two more intersections in Kirov have been switched to "conflict-free" mode.

Conflict-free traffic lights continue to be rolled out in Kirov. According to the city administration’s press service, this mode has begun operating as of today at two intersections: Preobrazhenskaya and Svobody, and Lenina and Morozovskaya.

Traffic is now organized so that pedestrians and vehicles do not interfere with each other. First a permissive signal for pedestrians is switched on, and after 7 seconds the signal for traffic moving parallel to the pedestrians is switched on. After that, for 13–15 seconds cars and pedestrians can move simultaneously. The permissive signal is then switched off first for pedestrians, then for traffic.

This algorithm allows people to cross the road safely without intersecting moving vehicles and reduces the risk of accidents at busy spots. The Directorate for Urban Improvement noted that conflict-free signal phases have already been implemented at a number of the city’s busy intersections and are planned to be expanded to other streets.
