Each participant is invited to choose two images: a Pyatigorsk landmark for the front of the banknote and a symbol of the North Caucasus Federal District for the reverse. All the proposed options have already been approved by experts of the Advisory Council on Banknotes.
The final design will be developed by artists from the Bank of Russia and Goznak with consideration for security features, and the regulator’s Board of Directors will make the final decision.
The new 500-ruble note will continue the series of redesigned banknotes — redesigned 100- and 5,000-ruble notes have already been put into circulation, and a new 1,000-ruble banknote is expected to be issued by the end of the year.
