Prohibited items were seized in penal colonies in Kirov Oblast.

      Employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) of Russia for the Kirov Region thwarted a number of attempts to deliver prohibited items to the region's correctional facilities. Over the first nine months of this year, offenders paid fines totaling more than 67,000 rubles.

      During searches in colonies and pre-trial detention centers, mobile phones, SIM cards, chargers and other items were seized. Attempts were made to pass them both in parcels and during visits. All persons found guilty have been held administratively liable.

      At Correctional Colony No. 5 in Kirovo-Chepetsk, staff found a phone with a charger hidden in a parcel. The sender paid a fine of 12,500 rubles. At Correctional Colony No. 17 in Omutninsk, a visitor was found during a search to have a kitchen knife and was fined 5,000 rubles. At Pre-trial Detention Center No. 1 in Kirov, a woman's phone and SIM card were confiscated as she passed through the checkpoint; the fine amounted to 25,000 rubles. At Correctional Colony No. 11 in Kirovo-Chepetsk, two female visitors attempted to bring in chargers; each was fined 12,500 rubles.
