Deputies were outraged by the rental of a sports complex for 90 million.
Today the committee of the Legislative Assembly considered a bill proposing amendments to the draft budget of the Kirov region. The most heated objections from deputies concerned the question of renting the VyatSU sports complex, for which the authorities propose allocating 90 million rubles a year.
In particular, deputy Albert Bikaluk expressed the view that such a decision will not lead to anything good. First, because students use the sports complex, and even if they are "moved" a little, very little free time will remain. And if they are "moved" a lot, it will affect the educational process. Second, because the region will have to not only pay rent but also be responsible for maintaining the property, which means additional sums. In the deputy's opinion, the whole story may have been concocted to siphon funds not into the sports sector but out of the university itself.
A similar opinion was expressed by deputy Sergey Mamaev. He noted that handing over 90 million rubles for a federal sports complex is impractical. Moreover, it would interfere with the educational process. Mamaev suggested directing these funds to the development of sport in the region.
First Deputy Chairman of the Government Dmitry Kurdyumov noted that the sports complex, with a total area of 13,500 square meters in the city center, is one of the most advantageous acquisitions, since the region could never afford to build something like it. He added that the complex contains many useful facilities — a swimming pool, an indoor athletics arena, multipurpose halls, a sports arena with stands, a boxing hall, two gyms, a recovery center and much more.
Kurdyumov emphasized that the complex will be available to both children from the city's six sports schools and residents of nearby areas. GTO standards will also be tested there and sporting competitions held. As for the schedule, it has already been drawn up; the educational process will not suffer, and the university will not experience any difficulties, the first deputy added.
