Kirov residents were warned about a new fraud scheme.
According to the Kirov branch of the Central Bank, scammers are calling people and posing as employees of popular marketplaces or as couriers to steal money from accounts. They persuade victims that they have a paid order and ask them to provide the code from the SMS that arrives on their phone.
The call begins with a message about the "delivery" of an item supposedly ordered by acquaintances. To seem convincing, the scammers give the recipient’s first and last name and address. They then ask for the code from the SMS or push notification — this is the password for logging into online banking. After that, the fraudsters withdraw money from the account.
Kirov residents are warned: never share codes from messages with anyone, even if the caller seems very convincing. Genuine marketplace employees do not ask for such information. At the slightest doubt, it is best to end the call immediately and verify the information yourself through the store’s official app or website.
