      In the piece "A 'Harry Potter' franchise has opened in Kirov" we already wrote that sidewalk repairs are underway on Tsentralnaya Street in the Ganino neighborhood, presumably in accordance with the previously approved plan. But they turned out to be too narrow for a pedestrian to pass — two corpulent people, and especially women, cannot get past each other any more easily than in the corridor of a passenger train. In at least a dozen spots of the meager sidewalk width — right in the center of the path — there are poles. Not trees that could be cut down with the stumps rolled into the asphalt, but proper electrical poles occupying three quarters of the pedestrian space. The actual getting-through "à la Vyatka platform 9 and 3/4" would be possible only in two cases: stepping onto the roadway, where the local population, mostly living in cottages, races in cars like Schumacher, or from the other side of the sidewalk tumbling into a thicket of bushes hoping for minor, not particularly life-threatening injuries. The third "getting-through" scenario is described in detail in the first Harry Potter film (12+): close your eyes, take a running start and slam into the pole with full force — presumably to end up on the other side of the portal. Objectively — injuries and bruises of varying severity. Perhaps the haste of the city administration's decision to reconstruct Ganino's sidewalks — to widen the pedestrian zone by half a meter toward the bushes in the form of a semicircular pocket — left no time for the process commonly called "using one's brains." So the sidewalk upgrade has been deemed "radical" by Ganino residents. Their evaluative judgment on the work is expressed in two words. "Examining the 'pocket widening', we've already reached a verdict: first, it's death for scooter riders — the overhead lamp glow makes the pole invisible in the dark. And second, who will clean this new sidewalk shaped like the letter 'zyu' if no mini-tractor will fit in there," Ganino residents reason. Local people have already "updated" the sidewalks by walking with strollers: "It's terribly inconvenient to swerve along the road, and in winter the wheels will get stuck on the curbs." And they insist that if a family has twins and the stroller is wider than a single-seat one, then this sidewalk is simply deadly for children: "We want to appeal to Simakov (head of the city administration, Vyacheslav Simakov — ed.) to personally walk along the pedestrian zone and give it an assessment. And also to order that a 'priority road' sign be placed in front of each pocket so that people entering the 'sidewalk widening' don't bump heads." By the way, the interlocutors addressed two requests to City Duma deputies, who could find out who was to blame for changing the project and by how many millions it became more expensive compared with the initial estimate: "We also noticed that nowhere have the gaps between sidewalks leading into residential yards and institutions been asphalted. Is this to save money, or is this acceptable now? And there are only a few days left until the end of August, when 'GDMS' is supposed to hand the completed works over to the 'Directorate of Improvement.' Doesn't this concern the deputies?"
