One in ten Kirov residents works as a freelancer, but many plan to return to the office.

According to a study by Rosgosstrakh and hh.ru, today 62% of residents of the Volga Federal District, including the Kirov region, are employed, 13% work as freelancers, and another 7% combine both formats.

Salaried employment is most common among production workers (76%), retail (74%) and security services (71%). Freelancing, meanwhile, predominates among specialists in the arts and entertainment sector (34%), marketing and advertising (34%) and IT (24%).

In the Kirov region, only 9% of workers moved from employment to freelancing. The main difficulties when making the transition are unstable income (65%), difficulty finding clients (56%) and the risk of encountering unscrupulous clients (48%).

Interestingly, some freelancers in the region plan to return to salaried employment: 10% of respondents said so, among them IT specialists (18%), lawyers (14%) and workers in skilled trades. The main motives are a stable salary, social guarantees and the ability to better separate work and personal life.

At the same time, 43% of Kirov residents would like to try freelancing. They are most attracted by a flexible schedule, freedom of movement and control over their own workload. Zoomers named the main “red flags” when job hunting. Kirov entered the top three regions where a single salary is not enough. The highest-paying vacancies in Kirov in August have been announced.
