The Simakov crack is growing: the crack at the base of the rotunda is four months old.
On April 3, residents of Kirov noticed a large crack at the base of the central rotunda in Alexandrovsky Garden, renovation of which, after several delays, was finally completed by mid-June 2024. The day after photos of the crack appeared in the media and city groups, Vyacheslav Simakov, the head of the city administration, visited the site, examined the crack by touch, and instructed the leadership of the May Day district administration to conduct an inspection soon to decide on restorative work. Additionally, the contractor responsible for the reconstruction was issued a directive to address the identified issues under warranty obligations. "The situation has been personally overseen," added the head of the administration.
Four months after the crack appeared at the base of the rotunda, the issue remains unresolved. Today, July 9, journalists from Newsler.ru visited Alexandrovsky Garden and personally verified that the crack is still there, and no repair work has begun. Likely, no plans for repairs are in place at the moment, as the rotunda would at least be cordoned off with warning tape if work were imminent.
On the official website of the Kirov city administration, no information regarding the inspection results of the cracked rotunda or plans for its repair has been posted since the crack appeared.
However, during the June 18 meeting of the standing commission on transport, utilities, ecology, and safety of life activities, deputies discussed the ongoing issue with the rotunda. It was reported that the city authorities have sent a pre-trial claim to the contractor for not fulfilling warranty obligations. However, all identified defects had not been addressed by May 1. On May 28, a claim was filed with the Arbitration Court of the Kirov region, which has already accepted it for review, but no hearing date has been set yet. "Currently, it is not advisable to fix the deficiencies at the expense of the budget," the commission emphasized. "The court may order a construction-technical examination, and any intervention could affect its results."
