
Kirov residents have become less poisoned.
By the end of the first half of 2025, 228 cases of acute poisoning were recorded in the Kirov Oblast, which is 51 cases fewer than during the same period last year. The leading cause of poisoning remains incidents related to alcohol consumption and its surrogates, accounting for 37.7%. Over six months, 86 such cases were registered, with 52 resulting in death. Nearly 95% of these deaths are linked to ethanol in strong alcoholic beverages. More than half of the victims are men aged 18 to 65. The second most common cause is poisoning with medicinal drugs, with 66 cases recorded this year; there was one fatality. Most of these cases are due to incorrect medication intake, primarily affecting children under six years old. The third leading cause is carbon monoxide poisoning caused by fires or improper use of heating stoves, with 26 cases registered, 19 of which ended in death. This aligns with last year's figures. Additionally, five cases of vinegar acid poisoning were reported, one of which was fatal. Two individuals were injured by bites from venomous snakes.
