
Pharmacies are multiplying and kiosks are disappearing in the Kirov region.
According to Kirovstat, by the end of 2024, there were 8,315 retail stores in the region, 858 non-stationary retail facilities (610 pavilions and 248 kiosks), 772 pharmacies and pharmacy stores, pharmacy points and pharmacies.
The largest share of specialized non—food stores in the region is 30.3%. The share of minimarkets is 29% of the total number of retail outlets. Specialty food stores account for 10.4%, supermarkets for 4.8%, department stores and hypermarkets for 1.3%, and other stores for 24.2%.
According to the agency, over the past five years, the number of pharmacies and pharmacy points has increased in the Kirov region: an increase of 5%. On the contrary, the number of tents and kiosks decreased by 38%, while the number of pavilions decreased by 13%. The total area of retail facilities was 1,744 thousand square meters.m.: 13% more than five years ago.
As noted in Kirovstat, there is a steady trend of concentration of retail facilities in urban areas in the region. As of the end of 2024, the majority of all stalls and kiosks (93%), pavilions (91%), pharmacies (89%) and shops (84%) in the Kirov region were located in urban-type cities and towns. Specialty stores that sell non-food items are most common in the urban area of the region. They account for 35% of all stores. Minimarkets mainly operate in rural areas (84%).
Kirovstat also noted an increase in the number of hypermarkets and supermarkets: over the past five years, their number has increased 1.3 times and amounted to 410 units.
It should be noted that at the end of 2024, the population's supply of retail facilities amounted to 1,585 square meters per 1,000 inhabitants, which is significantly higher than in Russia (986 square meters per 1,000 inhabitants) and the Volga Federal District (1,126 square meters per 1,000 inhabitants).
