At the "Vostok" plant (the urban-type settlement of Vostochny in the Omutninsky district of the Kirov region), a full-scale working meeting was held dedicated to the development of domestic antibiotic production in a full cycle with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Ekaterina Priezzheva.
The main areas of antibiotic application were presented, and representatives from federal centers, including the "Main Military Clinical Hospital named after Academician N.N. Burdenko" of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the National Medical Research Center specializing in "pulmonology" of Sechenov University discussed the issues of diseases and the effective use of the drug for treatment.
Within the framework of the working meeting, synergy occurred between manufacturers and representatives of the medical community, where the issue of training and preparing specialists was discussed separately.
Today, VyatSU is one of the centers for training personnel for pharmaceuticals and biotechnology in the Kirov region. The university graduates about 100 specialists annually in the fields of pharmaceutical biotechnology, microbiology, biology, molecular biology, and quality control of medicines.
VyatSU has been collaborating with LLC "Vostok" since 2019. One of the areas of joint work has been the analytical control of tobramycin: VyatSU specialists participated in the development of methods that formed the basis for the quality control of the finished drug. According to the rector of VyatSU, Valentin Pugach, the launch of tobramycin production at "Vostok" in a full cycle is significant not only for the enterprise itself but also for the development of the bioeconomy in the Kirov region. "With the support of the governor of the Kirov region, a cooperation between science, education, and industry is being established, and VyatSU is part of this system. The new high-tech jobs give our graduates the opportunity to stay and work in their home region," noted Valentin Nikolayevich.
The next stage of cooperation between the university and the enterprise may involve a closer integration of the educational process with real production. Among the promising areas are targeted training of students for specific technological tasks, organization of production practices at the enterprise site, development of educational programs for plant employees, and conducting joint scientific research.
VyatSU also considers the plant in the Omutninsky district as an industrial partner within the framework of the "Priority-2030" program and the project of an interuniversity campus of world level.
"For the enterprise, the university is a reliable partner. We are ready for systematic cooperation. VyatSU, as a supporting regional university, is ready to provide the enterprise with personnel and scientific support," emphasized Valentin Pugach. The antibiotic production presented at the "Vostok" site includes a full cycle—from obtaining its own pharmaceutical substance by biotechnological methods to the release of the finished dosage form. The plant's capacity is up to 5,000 kg of active pharmaceutical substance and up to 3 million doses of the finished drug per year. As Ekaterina Priezzheva noted, what has been done at the plant within the framework of opening the production site for the full-cycle drug production aligns with the strategy for the development of pharmaceutical production and the President's decree on healthcare development.
