The Bank of Russia plans to change the procedure for the key rate starting in 2027. If the board of directors decides to increase or decrease the rate on Friday, these changes will take effect the following Wednesday, rather than the upcoming Monday as is currently the case.
At the same time, the schedule for board meetings will not change — decisions on the key rate will still be made on Fridays. Only the day from which the updated rate will take effect is changing.
This innovation is necessary to synchronize the start date of the key rate with the schedule for averaging mandatory reserves. According to the regulator, this should reduce the volatility of money market rates, reports Interfax.
