Young Russians have found themselves at the bottom of the credit history rankings.

The average credit rating of Russian borrowers in July 2026 decreased by one point to 721 points. This data is provided by the online platform "Kredistoria" of the United Credit Bureau (UCB). Over the year, the indicator remained unchanged.

At the same time, the credit rating of women increased by two points over the year to 740 points. For men, it remained at the same level of 702 points.

The share of Russians with a very high credit rating—over 875 points—reached 17.4% in July. In comparison, in June, this share was 17.1%, and a year ago it was 14.7%.

Another 45.1% of borrowers have a high rating—from 794 to 874 points. In June, their share was 45.5%, and in July 2025, it was 46.6%. The average rating—from 571 to 793 points—is held by 14.5% of Russians. The share of this category decreased from 14.6% a month earlier and 16.8% a year ago.

At the same time, the share of borrowers with a low rating—from 1 to 570 points—increased to 23%. In June, it was 22.8%, and a year ago it was 21.9%.

      Youth lagging behind

The lowest credit rating traditionally belongs to Russians under 25 years old—an average of 626 points. Over the month, it decreased by four points, and over the year, by 22 points. In July 2025, the indicator was 648 points.

At the other end of the age scale are women over 50 years old—their credit rating is 755 points and above. Among men, the highest indicator is recorded for borrowers aged 60 and older—746 points.

The UCB believes that the stability of the average rating and its distribution across categories indicates the sustainable creditworthiness of Russians.

"Russians are highly adaptable to various, including not very positive, changes, and their creditworthiness continues to be a stable and solid foundation for both the country's financial system as a whole and for lending in particular," noted Nikolai Filippov, Director of Risk Methodology and Data Analytics at the UCB.

According to him, the noticeable gap between young and older borrowers is partly explained by the lack of sufficient credit experience among the youth. At the same time, entries in the credit history are canceled after seven years, so over time, the history of older borrowers may be "cleansed."

The UCB believes that to improve credit ratings, it is necessary to develop financial literacy and instill proper behavior models among Russians when obtaining and servicing loans. One of the methods mentioned is the transfer of financial experience within the family and large-scale programs to enhance financial culture.
