The arrival time of the procession to the village of Velikoretskoe has been postponed.
The procession will begin on June 3 and will conclude on June 8. According to the secretary of the Vyatka diocese, priest Vitaly Lapshin, the main day of the procession — June 6 — falls on a Saturday, so a slight increase in the number of pilgrims is expected.
There have been changes in the schedule. Previously, the procession arrived in the village of Velikoretskoe on June 5 at 18:00. This year, it will be welcomed at 16:00.
"Based on our experience, needs, and necessities, we concluded that the time of arrival (in Velikoretskoe) can be shifted," explained Lapshin.
The main service on June 6 at 10:00 on the banks of the Velikaya River will be led by Metropolitan Alexander of Kazakhstan and Astana — a native of the Kirov region. After the service, there will be a blessing of the river.
On the return day, June 8, the procession will arrive at the Trifon Monastery in Kirov half an hour earlier than usual — at 16:00. By 17:00, it is planned to clear the main city streets.
Traffic restrictions and transport operations
Dmitry Pechenk, the first deputy head of the Kirov administration, reported that starting June 2, streets in the city center around the Trifon Monastery and the "Labor Reserves" stadium will be closed. Dynamo Passage and Pioneer Passage will also be closed for the reception and parking of buses with pilgrims.
The main day is June 3. On that day, the following streets will be closed along the route of the procession: Albert Likhano, Lenin, Pavel Korchagin, Semashko, Iskry.
On the same day, public transport routes will change: 13 bus routes and 2 trolleybus routes. On June 8, when the procession returns, restrictions will be imposed on the New Bridge, and on Dzerzhinsky, Lomonosov, and Moscow streets.
A tent camp for pilgrims has been organized at the "Labor Reserves" stadium. Setting up tents on the territory of the Trifon Monastery is not allowed. Designated bus parking areas for visitors are located near Dynamo Passage and Pioneer Street. Parking is prohibited in Spasskaya Square.
Healthcare, safety, and living conditions
Stanislav Kurshakov, the first deputy minister of internal policy of the Kirov region, spoke about security measures. The column of pilgrims will be accompanied daily by two ambulance teams, and doctors from first-aid posts and district hospitals will be on duty at night stops.
In the village of Velikoretskoe, from June 5 to 7, a round-the-clock operation of a paramedic and obstetric point, two tent medical points, an ambulance team, and two general-purpose teams will be organized. If necessary, sanitary aviation will be prepared.
The parking areas have been treated for ticks (first stage), but pilgrims are still advised to wear appropriate clothing and use repellents. Field kitchens with hot water and points for dispensing clean drinking water will operate at the stops. Two storage trucks will accompany the procession for storing belongings.
Safety will be ensured by units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the "Peresvet" rescue team (about 50 people), special equipment, and ATVs.
Journalists' questions about routes and ecology
After the speakers' presentations, journalists asked clarifying questions. We inquired whether information about road closures in the region along the procession route would be published, as restrictions were announced in Kirov, but not in the districts. Kurshakov acknowledged that this is an important issue and promised that this information would also be posted on official resources.
Secretary of the Vyatka diocese Vitaly Lapshin added that federal highways will not be completely closed: pilgrims will only walk on one side of the road, leaving the other side free for traffic.
The issue of environmental safety at the parking areas was also raised. Journalists noted that pilgrims sometimes set up tents in areas with rare plants, and often trash is left behind after groups depart. In response to the request to organize volunteer groups to monitor the territory, Kurshakov explained that representatives of local administrations oversee order at each stop. He also took the issue under control and reported that the possibility of additional protection for rare plants would be discussed with the Ministry of Natural Resources.
