Kirov livestock farming showed a symbolic increase.
In Kirovstat, preliminary results of the livestock sector's performance for January–March 2026 have been summarized. Overall, the industry maintains stability, but without sharp jumps. Most indicators have increased within 1–2%, which rather indicates a smooth trend than a breakthrough.
By the end of March, the cattle population in agricultural organizations of the region increased by 1% (to 223.2 thousand heads). However, the number of cows slightly decreased by 0.7%, amounting to 94.6 thousand heads. The number of pigs increased by 1.6% (252.3 thousand), and sheep and goats by 2.1% (5.2 thousand). The absolute leader in growth was poultry: its population surged by 21.8% — to 4.3 million individuals.
As for production, there is also a barely noticeable increase. In three months, 215.7 thousand tons of milk were produced — just 0.2% more than the previous year. At the same time, the productivity of cows increased by 18 kg (to 2335 kg per head). In terms of gross milk yield, the region remains in third place in the Volga Federal District.
Meat production (cattle and poultry for slaughter in live weight) has already added a more significant 5.9%, reaching 31.7 thousand tons. Meanwhile, the egg production story looks more confident: 166.4 million pieces — this is +6.2% compared to last year's figure. The average laying hen produced 82 eggs.
