In Kotel'nichsky District, a truck driver was sent to a penal colony for a fatal crash.

The Kotel'nich Interdistrict Prosecutor's Office of the Kirov Region supported the state prosecution in the criminal case against a 33-year-old citizen of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The man was found guilty of violating traffic rules that negligently caused a person's death.

As the court found, the accident occurred on the evening of March 2, 2025, on the R-243 federal highway "Kostroma — Shar'ya — Kirov — Perm" near the village of Yuryevo in Kotel'nichsky District. The defendant, while driving a FAW truck, chose an inappropriate speed and entered the oncoming lane, where he collided with a GAZ vehicle.

As a result of the crash, the driver and a passenger of the domestic car were injured. The passenger suffered injuries incompatible with life and died.

Before the sentence was pronounced, the defendant compensated the victim and the relatives of the deceased for moral damage in the amount of 1.7 million rubles.

The court, agreeing with the position of the public prosecutor, sentenced the man to two years' imprisonment to be served in a colony-settlement. The convict attempted to appeal the sentence, claiming it was excessively harsh, but the appellate court left the decision unchanged.

The man was escorted to the place where he will serve his sentence.
