A human rights activist demands compensation from Magnit over "veal" sausages that contain no veal.

The issue arose over sausages labeled "Veal," sold in the chain's stores under its own private label. As follows from the complaint (available to Newsler.ru), a consumer, guided by the product's name, has the right to expect that it contains veal. However, the product's actual composition does not meet that expectation.

The image of the packaging provided shows the name "Sausages 'Veal'" in large print. At the same time, information about the ingredients is placed on the reverse side in small text and becomes accessible only after peeling off the label.

According to the manufacturer, the composition includes beef, broiler chicken breast fillet, mechanically separated poultry meat, pork, pork rind, potato and wheat starch, as well as food additives, stabilizers, and colorings. Veal is absent from the list of ingredients.

In Mikhailov's opinion, such a name misleads consumers about the product's actual composition.

"When buying the sausages, I assumed the product was made of veal. In fact, it is not," the complaint reads.

The rights defender has proposed a pretrial settlement to the retail chain and demands payment of 500,000 rubles in compensation for deceiving the consumer. If refused, he intends to file a lawsuit to recover the compensation and to demand that the product's name be changed.

He asks that the company send its response within ten days — by January 20, 2026.
