MegaFon’s wired internet is available in Kirov Oblast and 71 other regions of Russia.
Now current and new MegaFon customers will be able not only to use mobile services but also to connect home internet through the operator and gain bundled access to popular online cinemas and TV. This will make it possible to save on communications services and simplify expense management, since all services (mobile, home internet and TV) are paid from a single account.
Among the regions that most recently joined the program are Amur, Magadan and Sakhalin oblasts, Kamchatka Krai and the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The new service for residents of these territories became available as a result of the expansion of the FVNO model implemented by MegaFon on Rostelecom’s infrastructure.
The FVNO model (Fixed Virtual Network Operator — “virtual operator of fixed‑line services”) is an offer to customers of a convergent product that combines mobile and fixed services when one of the partners lacks its own broadband internet access infrastructure.
Within the partnership between the operators, Rostelecom provides spare capacity for connecting home internet in the region, and MegaFon offers its set of services and subscriber support. The first project under the FVNO model was launched by MegaFon in 2020 in Astrakhan. Now, taking into account the new connections in the Far East, the company offers convergent tariffs in 72 regions of the country, among them Kirov Oblast.
“We have completed the first stage of the project to expand the geography of access to the convergent product. We thank our partners at Rostelecom: their infrastructure and expertise allowed us to scale the service quickly and with quality. The next step is to use our partner’s network in those regions where MegaFon already has its own fixed‑broadband infrastructure. This will enable us to multiply the service’s penetration and increase its availability for an even greater number of customers,” says MegaFon’s Director of Fixed Business Development Artyom Filin.
“Rostelecom has the most extensive high‑speed internet network infrastructure in the country; we can guarantee customers high quality of connection and broad access to services anywhere in Russia: from small settlements to megacities. The ability to provide the full range of services for another operator will undoubtedly have a positive effect on market development in Russia’s regions and will ensure convenience and maximum choice for all residents. We will continue to develop projects under the FVNO model,” emphasized Rostelecom’s Director for Mass‑Market Products and Tariffs Alexey Demyanenko.
