In Kirov, cases involving the theft of smartphones that occurred several years ago have been sent to court.
Both crimes were considered unsolved and occurred in different years; however, work to identify the suspects continued. This was reported by the Kirov Linear Department of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for Transport.
The first incident dates back to 2021. At that time, a 28-year-old resident of Omutninsk, at the Stalnaya station, took advantage of the inattention of an acquaintance he had met by chance and secretly stole his smartphone worth about 13,000 rubles. After the theft the offender left the station building. The man's identity was established during operational measures, and the case was referred to court under subparagraph "v" of part 2 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. The maximum penalty under the article is up to five years' imprisonment.
The second incident occurred in September 2024 at Kotelnich station. A railway employee dropped a smartphone worth 9,000 rubles while performing his official duties. A 39-year-old local resident, upon finding the device, appropriated it and switched it off, making no attempt to return it to the owner. His actions were classified under part 1 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which provides for up to two years' imprisonment.
Both criminal cases have been sent to court for trial.
