Kirov Oblast entered the top 20 regions in terms of involvement in small business.
Kirov Oblast took 18th place in the ranking of regions by the share of those employed in small and medium-sized businesses, according to a RIA Novosti study. The study assesses the share of residents working in small-scale entrepreneurship, including individual entrepreneurs. In 2024, 41.4% of the region’s employed residents — 220.7 thousand people — worked in the SME sector. Over three years this involvement increased by 8.3%.
According to the ranking, the leaders include Kalmykia, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk Oblast. In these regions more than 52% of the employed work in small and medium-sized businesses. The outsiders were Ingushetia, Chukotka and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where the share employed in SMEs does not exceed 22%.
The average for Russia is about 40%, meaning Kirov Oblast demonstrates a result above the national level.
