In Russia, they want to ban stores from preparing food.
Lawmakers want to introduce a bill to the State Duma that would prohibit retail chains from using products whose shelf life expires within 24 hours to prepare ready-to-eat foods. It is also proposed to ban the on-site preparation of prepared meals in stores, reports the Izvestia newspaper.
Amendments to the law "On the Fundamentals of State Regulation of Trade Activity in the Russian Federation" are to be proposed by deputies led by Sergey Mironov.
The authors of the initiative note that current sanitary rules allow ready-to-eat culinary products to be stored and sold uncovered. However, they say such conditions increase the risk of food contamination and the incidence of intestinal infections.
As an example, the document cites a recent case of mass shawarma poisoning in Buryatia, where 145 people were affected.
