A student from Kirov believed in "luck" and fell into a trap set by scammers.

A 19-year-old student from Kirov fell victim to online scammers after responding to an offer to take part in a “smartphone giveaway” on one of the Telegram channels. The young woman believed she had won the gadget and, in order to receive the prize, followed all the fraudsters’ instructions.

According to the “organizers,” she had to pay 5,500 rubles for delivery. After transferring the money, she was sent a fake tracking number and informed of new “mandatory payments” — 18,000 rubles for customs and 25,000 rubles for certification.

When the student began to have doubts, the fraudster posing as the giveaway organizer sent her a photo of a passport and promised to return the money. The student believed her again and transferred the requested amounts. But soon a new message arrived — stating that she needed to pay another 33,000 rubles “to obtain clearance from the FSB and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.” After that, the woman from Kirov realized she was being deceived and went to the police. A criminal case has been opened in the matter.

Law enforcement officials remind people: do not trust online promotions and “giveaways” that require payment of any fees. Never transfer money to strangers or provide them with your personal data — this is a classic scam.
