Sugar prices fell to a minimum.
According to Lenta.ru, the decline is linked to an increase in global production and a drop in demand, including because of the popularity of weight‑loss drugs that affect consumption of sweets.
Analysts note that pressure on the market was strengthened by a fresh forecast from Brazilian consulting firm Datagro, which estimated a global sugar surplus of almost 2 million tonnes in the 2025/26 season, whereas a deficit of 5 million tonnes had previously been expected.
After the lows of December 2020, sugar prices rose steadily, aided by frosts in Brazil that damaged sugarcane crops. However, since the start of 2025 sugar has fallen by roughly 25%, which experts call one of the sharpest declines in recent years.
