According to Rosstat, as reported by RBC, by the end of 2024 Russia’s population was 46% men and 54% women — traditionally women outnumber men by more than 10 million. The average age of Russians was 41 years: 38 for men and 43 for women.
The majority of the country’s inhabitants are ethnic Russians (80.8%). Average height is 166.9 cm for men and 159.5 cm for women, and average weight is 74.1 kg and 67 kg, respectively.
In 2024, 63% of men and 54% of women were legally married. Russians most often spend their free time watching TV programs and films (77.9%), socializing with friends (70.6%), and using computers or phones (50.2%). Thirty-four percent of the population read books, and 24.5% have hobbies.
Eighty-eight point nine percent of Russians use the Internet, with daily use at 76.4% for men and 74.7% for women. The majority (52.7%) rate their health as good or very good; among people aged 35–39 this figure reaches 80.4%.
Real cash incomes of Russians rose by 8.4% in 2024, and the average salary increased by 19% to 89,069 rubles. The average employed person is a woman with higher education working in wholesale and retail trade, earning about 84,000 rubles per month.
In addition, almost half of families in Russia (49.3%) own a passenger car. Seventy-five percent of the population live in cities, most often in the Central (28%) and Volga (19%) federal districts. Among residents of individual apartments, 42% live in two-room apartments.
