Oleg Valenchuk: We are creating the conditions to nurture champions.

      In September 2025, a long‑awaited event took place in the Slobodskoy District: the secondary school in the village of Shikhovo reopened its doors to students after a major renovation. The repair work began in March, proceeded at a brisk pace, and by September 1 some 702 students were able to start classes in the refurbished classrooms. It was a real gift for the start of the school year.

      Another gift was the opening of a judo section. Now young athletes will be able to learn the basics of the "flexible way" right within the school’s walls.

      On this momentous occasion, the president of the Kirov Region Judo Federation and State Duma deputy Oleg Valenchuk congratulated the school’s students, teachers and the parents of future champions.

      "I thank the coaching staff, the physical education teachers and everyone who helps to master this demanding sport," Oleg Valenchuk said. "Physical training will certainly be useful to the children, even if they don't choose to devote their lives to judo. And the skills gained in school training and while taking part in competitions will help them succeed in sport and in life."

      "As Polina Usanova, a primary school teacher, noted, the opening of the section had been awaited here for several years:

      "Two years ago we took part in the Russian Judo Federation’s 'My First Belt' project. The children attended classes and then demonstrated what they had learned at regional competitions. And it was our team that took first place."

      Among the first to sign up for the section were the daughter and son of Alexander Khalturin. He expressed hope that the children would soon show good results at competitions at various levels, and that judo would become their favorite sport, one that fosters willpower and character.

      "More than 40 boys and girls have already signed up for the section," coach Andrey Usanov said. "I am sure the kids will enjoy attending the classes, and our further plans include their participation in their first judo competitions and tournaments!"
