Kirov ranked 62nd among Russian cities by salary levels.
Kirov ranked 62nd out of 100 in a ranking of Russian cities by wage levels compiled by RIA Novosti. The agency’s experts assessed residents’ purchasing power by comparing average net wages with the cost of a fixed basket of goods and services.
According to the study, in Kirov the ratio of net wages to the cost of the basket was 3.1. This means that the average income can buy a little more than three standard baskets of goods and services. The average net wage in the city in January–June 2025 reached 69,200 rubles, which is 18% higher than in the same period last year.
The top of the ranking was occupied by northern cities — Novy Urengoy and Salekhard, where a single salary can buy 5.86 and 5.57 consumer baskets, respectively. At the bottom of the list are Nalchik and Grozny, where the purchasing power of wages does not exceed 2.2 baskets.
Overall, as RIA Novosti analysts note, in most Russian cities the average salary can buy between 2.5 and 3.5 consumer baskets. Income growth in the country is linked to a labor shortage and the development of import-substituting industries.
