Residents of the Lyangasovskaya apartment building nearly drowned in feces.
According to residents, the basement of their building — built for 80 million rubles in 2014 for people relocated from unsafe housing — turned this autumn into a foul-smelling lake half a meter deep. Since it was built, locals recall, the building has existed under the principle “it leaks sometimes from above, sometimes from below.” At first the building was flooded by groundwater — back then, about ten years ago, the People’s Front intervened. Now it’s the turn of sewage. The basement began to flood in the spring. At the end of September the foul-smelling sludge burst out — through ventilation windows and cracks. In the ground-floor apartments the smell became almost unbearable. People resorted to bleach, buckets and air fresheners. The management company, as usual, shifted responsibility onto the external networks, and workers only turned up from time to time to “pump it out.” After residents appealed to the People’s Front, the matter finally moved off dead center — the water-supply organization repaired the collector, installed an additional manhole and pumped out the sewage. Now only puddles remain in the basement and the hope that the scent of cleanliness will last longer than a couple of days.
