Tourists are being lured to the regions with popular science.
Bashkortostan has begun actively developing popular science tourism. This was announced by the head of the region, Radiy Khabirov, who presented nine new routes that connect advanced laboratories, industrial enterprises and natural attractions.
“They start at the campus of the Eurasian Research and Education Center, pass through leading university laboratories, enterprises of the real sector of the economy, and natural attractions, including our two geoparks ‘Yangan-Tau’ and ‘Toratau,’” the portal mkset.ru quotes the official as saying.
As Natalia Latypova, director of the management company of the REC of Bashkortostan, explained, seven routes currently operate in Ufa and two across the republic. Each is dedicated to a specific scientific field: the humanities, engineering, chemistry, biomedical sciences, IT, and the physical and mathematical sciences.
In practice it looks like this: within the biomedical route “Avicenna,” participants perform ultrasounds themselves, practice resuscitation on a mannequin, and see how medicines and 3D implants are created. The technical and IT routes include encounters with assistant robots and “smart” clothing, while the natural science routes involve visits to UNESCO geoparks and a carbon testing site.
According to Latypova, the uniqueness of the Bashkortostan approach lies in interuniversity routes that allow visitors to see several scientific venues on a single excursion. This differs from programs in neighboring Tatarstan, where mostly separate university tours are offered.
More than 1,500 schoolchildren and students, including from other regions, have already taken part in such scientific tours. Organizers plan to increase tourist flow, using popular science as a tool to attract talented young people to science and to the region. You can sign up for the excursions through the Eurasian Research and Education Center’s website.

Tourists are being lured to the regions with popular science.
The authorities of Bashkortostan have found a new way to attract tourists and prospective students — popular science tours. Instead of the usual museum visits, guests are offered the chance to have an ultrasound scan, operate drones, and meet robotic assistants.
