Parking spaces will be narrowed, signs will be consolidated: what awaits motorists in the new year

Starting next year, new road signs will appear in Russia. In particular, the "Stop line" sign will become vertical and will be used where it is impossible to apply horizontal road markings. A sign reading "Recommended speed when passing an artificial bump" will also appear. This, the authors of the innovation believe, will help motorists choose the correct speed for passing speed bumps and reduce the load on a vehicle's suspension when going over an artificial bump.

A road sign "Deaf pedestrians" is being introduced. It will complement the existing sign for blind pedestrians. A sign is also being introduced that indicates the months during which various road signs are in effect.

Some road signs may be combined on a single plate: for example, "Snow-covered surface" — this sign will depict a cloud with precipitation and a snowflake.

Changes will also affect parking spaces: the width of a single parking space will decrease from 2.5 metres to 2.25 metres. The length will remain unchanged — 6.5 metres. The authors of the initiative believe that such "narrowing" should optimize the use of road space.
