Another journalist is on trial for fake news about the army.
Krasnoyarsk journalist Svetlana Khustik was sent to a pretrial detention center for two months in a case about "fake news about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," writes prmira.ru, citing the regional Investigative Committee. The journalist has been detained. According to the investigation, she allegedly published on the social networks of a foreign-agent media outlet material "containing deliberately false information about the actions of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation." The investigation claimed that after publishing the article the journalist allegedly received a payment of 64,000 rubles, writes the portal prmira.ru.
Despite positive character references, the court remanded the journalist in custody, including because she has a foreign passport.
Meanwhile, such criminal cases are by no means rare and not only journalists come into the sights of security forces. Thus, in September in the Kirov region the investigation sent to court a criminal case against a Kirov resident who is accused under part 4 of article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rehabilitation of Nazism) and point "d" of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code (public dissemination of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation).
The UFSB of Russia for the Kirov region reported that the man publicly insulted deceased participants of the SVO and presented false information about the actions of the Russian army as true. And in August the agency detained a 38-year-old man on charges of publishing knowingly false information about the actions of Russian servicemen, which he had posted on social networks over the course of one and a half years.
