Voronov was sentenced.
It should be recalled that the state prosecution intended to seek for former deputy chief of the Interior Ministry’s directorate for the Kirov Region, Andrey Voronov, 7 years in a maximum‑security penal colony, a fine of 38 million rubles and the stripping of state awards. According to the investigation, at the end of 2023 the defendant received a bribe in the form of a car whose rental value exceeded 700,000 rubles, arranged through a company under his control. In addition, he gave unlawful orders to subordinates to accept course credits without the exams actually being taken.
The violations were uncovered by FSB officers, after which the materials were transferred to the Investigative Committee. The ex‑colonel is accused of receiving a large bribe and exceeding official powers.
Today, September 24, the Kirov Regional Court delivered the verdict. Our correspondent reported that Voronov was found guilty under subparagraph “v” of part 5 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe on a large scale) and subparagraph “e” of part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code (exceeding official powers out of personal interest). The Kirov Regional Court sentenced the convicted man to 6 years’ imprisonment in a maximum‑security penal colony, a fine of 19,327,780 rubles (20 times the amount of the bribe), and also deprived him of the right to hold positions connected with the exercise of representative authority for a period of 6 years. In addition, he lost the special rank of “police colonel” and the state award — the medal “For Distinction in the Protection of Public Order.”
