Teachers were provided with apartments near the airport.

      The head of the city, Elena Kovaleva, and deputies of the City Duma inspected the building of the former hotel at 2a Aeroport Street, part of whose premises had been converted into apartments for public-sector employees. Previously vacant rooms in the veterans’ home were transformed into seven one-room apartments for employees of schools, kindergartens, and cultural institutions. PVC windows were installed, the plumbing and electrical wiring were replaced, and about 1.5 million rubles from the city budget were spent on cosmetic repairs.

      The new residents are teachers and specialists from cultural institutions. For example, spouses Pavel and Karina Letyagins, who work at the children’s School of Arts “Pastoral” in Doronichi, admitted that housing had been a major problem for them. Now they will not have to spend a lot of money on renting an apartment. Another apartment recipient is Alena Vidyakina, a primary school teacher at School No. 71 who is on maternity leave. She noted that she and her child had lived in rented apartments for five years and the rent was expensive; moreover, they could not make renovations to suit themselves. Now the problem has been solved.

      According to Elena Kovaleva, the decision to create a fund for staff housing proved to be the right one. Housing is provided under a contract on the condition that recipients continue to work in municipal organizations. In the near future the fund will be supplemented with several more apartments at 79 Lenin Street, which are planned to be allocated to large families of public-sector employees.
