In Orichi, they established "Grandfather's Grove": the grandchildren of the victors planted oaks in honor of their heroes.

The project is being implemented by the autonomous non-profit organization “My Tree” with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund. The idea’s author is Natalya Olkova, known in the region for her initiatives to preserve the memory of ancestors. This year the project received a grant of 354,000 rubles, which made it possible to purchase saplings and organize the first planting in Orichi.

“Grandfather’s Oak Grove” is a generational project designed to span decades. Under the participation rules, any descendant of a veteran who was born or lived in Orichi may plant an oak. Organizers emphasize that this is about honor, not just remembrance — the grove should become a place of strength where future generations will come to remember their roots and draw inspiration.

As part of the first planting, 20 oak saplings were planted. According to the initiators, similar forest parks are planned to be established in every city, town and village in the southern part of Kirov Oblast in the future.

The “Grandfather’s Oak Grove” project was one of 14 Kirov projects that won in the second competition of the Presidential Grants Fund in 2025. In total, more than 24 million rubles were allocated in the region for these purposes.
