The possible sentence for Colonel Voronov has been revealed.
The hearing in Colonel Voronov’s criminal case took place today behind closed doors at the Kirov Regional Court. According to our source, the prosecution may seek seven years in a strict-regime penal colony and a fine of 38 million rubles for the colonel, who is allegedly accused of “accepting bribes.” In addition, Andrey Voronov is to be stripped of all state awards he has received.
According to the Kirov Region prosecutor’s office, the proceedings in the case are not yet complete. “It is too early to comment,” the regional prosecutor’s office said.
Earlier we wrote that, according to the Investigative Committee, the former deputy head of the Russian Interior Ministry’s directorate for the Kirov Region, acting out of mercenary motives contrary to the interests of the service, from November to December 2023 unlawfully accepted a bribe from a representative of one of the joint-stock companies in the form of the gratuitous, indefinite use of a car purchased under a leasing agreement by a company controlled by the bribe-giver; the rental value of the car amounted to more than 700,000 rubles. In addition, the suspect issued a knowingly unlawful instruction to a subordinate to record employees as having passed assessments without their actually taking them as part of a professional suitability check.
The unlawful actions of the former deputy head were uncovered by officers of the regional FSB directorate. The materials were forwarded to the Investigative Committee. The man was suspected of committing offenses under paragraph “v” of part 5 of article 290 (accepting a bribe on a large scale) and paragraph “e” of part 3 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (exceeding official powers out of personal interest).
