Residents of the Kirov region shared which professions they consider the most prestigious.
Residents of Kirov Oblast singled out IT specialists among the most prestigious professions. According to a study by hh.ru, 53% of respondents in the region consider this field the most respected. By comparison, the nationwide figure is lower — 51%.
In the regional ranking, engineers with higher education came in second (37%), and scientists and researchers were third (36%). Fourth place went to doctors (28%), and rounding out the top five were creative professions (18%), which is also higher than the national average (14%). Considered less prestigious by residents are blue-collar jobs (12%) and office workers (5%).
Working professions: respect for engineering, but not for general laborers
Among manual trades, the most respected were service engineers and mechanical engineers (29%), surveyors and CNC machine operators (24% each). Meanwhile, security guards, couriers, cashiers, loaders and packers were at the very bottom of the prestige list.
Men and women see it differently
The study showed gender differences: women were more likely to choose the IT sector (57% versus 47% for men) and creative professions (17% versus 12%). Men, on the other hand, rated engineers more highly (39% versus 34% among women) and skilled workers (13% versus 9%).
Each field values its own
Professional affiliation directly influences respondents' views. For example, among IT workers, 67% named professions from their own industry as prestigious. In the science and education sector, respondents more often highlighted scientists (39%) and IT specialists (58%). In the arts and media, creative professions came first (35%), but science (38%) and digital specialties (48%) were also highly valued.
Kirov Oblast stands out in the national context for its higher level of recognition of IT professions and greater respect for creative fields. According to analysts, this indicates that the region is increasingly oriented toward a digital future while not losing interest in culture and scientific activity.
