
The rivers of Kirov Oblast have been swamped with fish fry.
Today, September 9, the fourth release of sterlet fry into a river this year took place in the Novovyatsky District of the city of Kirov. According to the regional government, this time about 10,000 sterlet fry were released into the Vyatka.
In total, 82,500 sterlet fry were released into the rivers of Kirov Oblast in 2025. And since the beginning of 2023, one and a half million fry of various fish species have been released into rivers in different districts of the region.
The regional Ministry of Environmental Protection reported that the fry were delivered from Saratov Oblast. The release of the sterlet fry proceeded normally, under the supervision of ministry specialists and representatives of the Kirov Fisheries Protection Department.
The ministry noted that sterlet play a key role in maintaining balance in aquatic communities and regulating fish populations. Sterlet also perform an important function in maintaining ecological well-being — this fish is very sensitive to water quality and can signal problems with its condition.
The regional government added that another release of fry is planned this year. Fish fry may be released into the rivers until the beginning of October.
