In Slobodskoy, grass grew through the new asphalt.
Last autumn a contractor, as part of the "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment" program, laid new asphalt and replaced the curbs. However, by spring potholes had appeared in the pavement, gravel began to come loose, and near one of the building entrances grass had grown right through the asphalt. Residents turned to activists for help. The city administration stated that the contractor would fix the defects under warranty by October 1. In the official response to the residents it was claimed that the work had already been completed, although in fact some of the potholes had merely been filled with bitumen. Dmitry Sergeev, an expert with the People's Front, noted that the cause of the damage could be either a violation of the laying technique or poor winter maintenance of the courtyard. If the defects are not fixed by October 1, the activists intend to turn to the prosecutor's office.
