The Bank of Russia has extended restrictions on currency withdrawals for another six months.

For Russians whose foreign-currency account was opened before March 9, 2022, a limit on currency withdrawals remains in the amount of the balance of funds at 00:00 Moscow time, but not more than USD 10,000 or the equivalent amount in euros, if this option has not been previously exercised, the Central Bank noted. The remaining money can be withdrawn in rubles. The amount paid out cannot be less than the amount calculated on the day of payment at the official Bank of Russia exchange rate for funds deposited before September 9, 2022. Funds deposited after that date are paid out at the current rate at the time of payment. In addition, banks remain prohibited from charging fees to individuals when issuing currency from accounts and deposits for six months. Currency transfers without opening an account and via e‑wallets are issued in rubles, and the amount cannot be less than the amount calculated on the day of payment at the Bank of Russia’s rate. Cash in US dollars, euros, British pounds sterling and Japanese yen is not issued to non‑resident legal entities until March 9, 2026. Resident legal entities can receive cash in the specified currencies only for business travel in accordance with established payment norms. There are no restrictions on other currencies provided the requirements of Russian law are met. The last time a similar measure was introduced was in the spring of this year and it was in effect until September 9, 2025.
