A courtyard in Kirov is flooded due to landscaping errors at a neighboring building.
The courtyard of the apartment building at 40a Nekrasov Street in Kirov is constantly flooded after repairs to the neighboring building at 7 Pushkin Street. Residents found that workers had paved over the drainage ditch that previously carried water away from the yard.
The building at 40a Nekrasov is located in a low-lying area, and water now accumulates right by the entrances. Residents fear that in the autumn this will lead to the basement being flooded and to damage to the foundation.
The situation began back in 2022, when the yard at 40/1 Nekrasov was being renovated under a federal improvement program. A ditch had been constructed to divert water, providing drainage into the low-lying area by building 40a. However, in July 2025, during repairs to the neighboring yard, workers paved over part of the ditch, disrupting the natural drainage.
Residents contacted the management company, but the situation did not change. They then sought help from the regional branch of the People’s Front. The head of the organization, Valeria Cheremisinova, notes that the paving may have extended beyond the premises of the building at 7 Pushkin, and that the systemic problem is that improvement projects in Kirov are often carried out without design documentation that takes terrain and drainage into account.
The People’s Front sent an appeal to the prosecutor’s office to determine who should resolve the flooding problem.
