Major overhauls of the nitric acid units have been completed at the KChKhK branch.

Technical maintenance and repair of numerous vessels and assemblies were carried out, along with the mandatory industrial safety inspection of process equipment.

On the large-tonnage unit AK-72/1, the equipment was inspected, defects corrected, and the gas scrubber, exhaust gas heater, and process gas turbine were repaired. A major job aimed at improving heat transfer and increasing the unit’s operational stability was the replacement of the second-stage nitrous gas cooler with a heat exchanger with an increased heat transfer area. During the overhaul, important measures were implemented to prevent unplanned shutdowns of the unit, including replacing the feedwater heater with a standby unit.

On unit AK-72/2, an extensive overhaul of the GTT-12 gas-turbine installation was carried out: the flowpath and end wall of the high-pressure turbine and the guide vanes of the low-pressure turbine were replaced. The MAS 63 valve, which participates in the emergency protection of GTT-12, was also refurbished. The work performed was aimed at increasing the reliability of the equipment. The nitrous gas pipeline was repaired with replacement of its segments. This work will continue next year.

Andrey Odintsov, chief engineer of the KCHHK branch of JSC OHK Uralchem:

      — Due to the large scope of work in the overhaul of the units, personnel from the plant’s repair divisions and contracting organizations took part. The measures implemented will enable the shop to ensure safety during the technological process and minimize unplanned downtime.
