According to him, today about a third of Russians live on such an amount, while the minimum basket of goods and services costs roughly 20,000 rubles. People with salaries of 25–27 thousand rubles are effectively on the brink of poverty, the politician noted, as reported in Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
Slutsky stressed that amid rising prices and the shift to a progressive tax scale, support for low-income segments of the population becomes especially urgent. In his view, exemption from personal income tax would raise Russians' living standards and slightly increase household budgets.
The proposal is being considered in the context of drawing up the three-year federal budget.
